Carrier Celebrates 110 Years of Modern Air Conditioning
What started as an invention to control humidity in a New York printing plant in 1902 has forever changed the way people around the world live, work and play.

July 17th marked the 110th anniversary of the invention of modern air conditioning by Dr. Willis H. Carrier, inventor and founder of Carrier, a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

Carrier was a young research engineer just a year out of Cornell University, when he finalized the design to stabilize the humidity in the air so the dimensions of the paper at the Sackett & Wilhelms Lithography and Printing Company in Brooklyn, NY, would remain constant throughout the printing process. Since then this innovation has been applied to everything from malls to manufacturing facilities, businesses houses and hospitals, whose occupants are all looking for a comfortable environment.

"In the early 1900s, air conditioning was primarily an industrial application that enabled countless industries to thrive with candy-making companies, textile mills, and theaters being some of the most enthusiastic early adopters," says Geraud Darnis, president & CEO, UTC Climate, Controls & Security. Luxaire Events Raise $90,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma
The Luxaire brand of Johnson Controls recently supported two events that raised nearly $90,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma.

The Walk For Wishes event raised $24,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, including a $5,000 donation from Luxaire. Following the two-mile walk-a-thon, participants enjoyed a children’s carnival, complete with carnival games and food.

Luxaire sponsored the annual "If Purses Were Wishes & More" event, held at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. The luncheon attracted 410 guests, who had the chance to bid on a collection of handbags, jewelry and designer accessories donated from various boutiques, individuals and celebrities across the state.

The luncheon and auction raised $65,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, including a $5,000 donation from Luxaire.

Nortitz Names Yamaha Winner: Conejo Tankless of California
Conejo Tankless Water Heaters of Thousand Oaks, Calif., has received a Yamaha TW200 dual purpose motorcycle as the first quarterly prize winner in the Noritz 2012 PROCard Promotion.

Launched in March to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Noritz’s entry into the U.S. tankless water heating market, the 10-month contractor appreciation promotion is designed to recognize and reward members of the company’s ongoing PROCard Program, as well as to attract additional professional installers to the group.

JCI Expands Support for Coleman Contractors, Distributors

Johnson Controls is expanding its comprehensive technical support services for Coleman distributors and contractors, to include application, startup and commissioning (ACS) services.

ASC services enable distributors and contractors to partner with a highly qualified, factory-certified technician, who will help handle the complex issues that arise during application, start-up and commissioning. The technician provides assistance in the equipment specification process, and then oversees start-up and commissioning at the installation site, which ensures proper mechanical systems and controls setup at start-up. Technicians also can assist in training operations and maintenance personnel.
