Success is largely based on technician training and value engineering.
The editors of Contracting Business.com — a leading, national publication for residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) contractors, have named Campbell & Company of Pasco, WA as the Contracting Business.com 2012 Residential HVAC Contractor of the Year.
Now in its 26th year, the Contracting Business.com Residential HVAC Contractor of the Year Award is presented to a leading residential HVAC contracting firm that upholds high standards of excellence related to customer service, HVAC system installation and maintenance, business management, growth strategies, community service, and in its contributions to the HVAC industry.
Campbell & Company was founded in 1983 as Grassi Refrigeration. It later became known as Campbell & Bruce. In 2004, the company was rebranded as Campbell & Company. The company is owned by Mike Campbell.
Campbell & Company’s name reflects the fact that there is a group of dedicated individuals — the “company” — at work serving homeowners throughout the Tri-Cities region of the Columbia Valley. “It’s really all about the company. If you spend a little bit of time here, you’ll realize that our employees are out in front,” Mike Campbell says. “We want our employees to take ownership.”
“The marketing efforts of Campbell & Company have created an atmosphere where the employees truly do take ownership, and treat the company as their own,” says Contracting Business.com Associate Editor Kate Kelly, author of the feature story about the company. “That enthusiasm is reflected in the quality of work the employees produce. From the office staff, to the technicians and sales force, Campbell & Company’s employees leave a lasting, positive impression,” Kelly says.
Major ingredients in this company’s recipe for success include a dedicated training program for service technicians. Once an employee is hired, the training begins. “In our residential service department, we have one employee who does nothing but train,” says Sherry Sams, vice president of operations. “He’s a journeyman, a service technician, and very good at what he does. He will work with the new person for several weeks to a couple of months.”
Another element in Campbell & Company’s success is its emphasis on “value engineering.”
“Value engineering is, what we can do to provide value to the customer. It’s things that save money in the long run, but also add value to the customer," Sams says.
Customer surveys show Campbell & Company receives rave reviews from nearly 98% of its customers.
Contracting Business.com accepts nominations for the Residential Contractor of the Year at any time. Nominations are welcome from owners, employees, distributors, manufacturers, even from satisfied customers.
