    May 3, 2012
Obtain and learn how to apply building and design ideas for sustainable, high-performance buildings.

Carrier is launching its third Sustainability Symposium series in May, providing consulting engineers, design-build contractors and facility managers a one-day course on emerging trends and technologies associated with sustainable, high-performance buildings, as well as continuing education credits.

Cities currently scheduled for the 2012 Sustainability Symposiums include:
    Boston, MA – May 8
New York City, NY – May 8
    Philadelphia, PA – June 13
    Bethesda, MD – Sept. 17

The symposiums promote environmentally responsible buildings of the future and feature a hands-on look at Carrier’s Mobile Innovation Center, an 18-wheeler featuring the company’s sustainable products and energy service offerings.

Carrier designed the symposiums to allow industry professionals to obtain and easily apply building and design ideas for sustainable high-performance buildings. Each symposium will provide information and standards from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Version Three.

Attendees will be able to claim 0.2 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) or 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH’s) for each workshop for professional licenses. With up to four workshops scheduled, attendees can earn up to 0.8 CEU’s or 6 PDH’s.

Carrier Sustainability Symposiums are offered through Carrier University’s Institute for Sustainability, which leverages the company’s body of knowledge and expertise to deliver green building and sustainability education. Launched in 2009, the symposiums have reached more than 2,000 people in 28 cities.

“We wanted to provide an educational forum for industry professionals nationwide to easily learn and apply new design and building ideas for sustainable structures,” says Brian Lynch, manager, Carrier University. “Rather than industry professionals coming to us, Carrier is bringing the Sustainability Symposium to them, hosting one-day workshops in select cities across the U.S. over the next several months.”

As part of the symposiums, 10 distinguished presenters with more than 250 years of combined HVAC experience will cover topics ranging from micro-steam power systems and fuel cells to refrigerants and chiller plant applications, to name a few. “Buildings consume 40 percent of total energy and are a large source of greenhouse gas emissions,” says John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Climate, Controls & Security. “These symposiums allow us to share our global expertise in sustainability and environmental leadership with our customers to shape greener skylines for tomorrow.”

Carrier has a long history of proactive environmental stewardship and is the only company in the world to be a founding member of the U.S., China, India, Argentina, Singapore, and France Green Building Councils. Carrier is also the U.S. Green Building Council’s largest global partner for LEED education.
