• Comfortech Product Showcase Award

    March 1, 2011
At HVAC Comfortech 2010, 12 products were recognized as Product Showcase Award winners. Judges took into consideration the ease with which HVAC contractors can apply the technology, and the technical value of the product or service to the HVAC industry. We'll feature these products each month in upcoming issues of Contracting Business. This month, we're featuring American Standard's ForeFront Air Handler, the winner in the Forced-Air Cooling category.

American Standard® Heating & Air Conditioning Introduces Advancement In Air Handler Technology
American Standard® Heating & Air Conditioning launched its new American Standard ForeFront™ air handler, which breaks new ground with 21 industry innovations, including four patents on cabinet design, nine patents on the blower system, three patents on the new all-aluminum coil and five patents on the controls, company sources state.

Air from an American Standard ForeFront is circulated through an exclusive doublewalled cabinet design that keeps unwanted insulation particles out of the conditioned air in the home while also eliminating thermal losses that result in condensation. The ForeFront also provides improvements in ease of installation with its modular design and smaller size.

Application is flexible with four-way configuration with no conversion, and the entire product disassembles into just 4 pieces in as little as 2 minutes.

The ForeFront also delivers on consumer demand for reliability, comfort, safety and efficiency — with many models meeting requirements for energy rebates when installed as part of a complete system. All while reducing consumers' energy use in the short term and overall life cycle cost in the long term.

Carrier Corp. Announces Break-through Efficiency in Home Heating
Carrier Corp. announced a home heating unit, which will be available this summer. The innovative new technology used in this advanced heat pump is known as Carrier® Greenspeed™ intelligence.

Carrier Greenspeed intelligence which will be available as part of the Infinity® heat pump line ranging from 2 to 5 tons.

It uses a variable speed scroll compressor, giving homeowners the comfort of consistent indoor temperatures associated with variable speed technology while reducing their use of fossil fuels and lowering electric heating costs. The new heat pump with Greenspeed intelligence will deliver a Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) heating efficiency rating up to 13 and cooling efficiencies of up to 20 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio).

The new line of heat pumps is currently in the final stage of field testing, with consumer availability scheduled for this summer.

GeoSystems Announces New Two Stage Split System
GeoSystems® has announced the introduction of the ECONAR Two Stage Split systems available in two models – the air handling split or dual fuel split.

The dual fuel split system is made up of a compressor and an air coil that work with an existing fossil fuel furnace and ductwork. In the heating mode, the first stage of operation supplies the energy needed for minimal heating. As the temperature drops, the second stage kicks in to provide additional warmth. When temperatures go to the extreme, the furnace engages to add even more heat. The air-handling split system consists of both a compressor and an air handling unit and replaces a conventional furnace. Heating and cooling is transferred through the air handling unit that can be placed anywhere in the home.
