Lots of Sunshine for Wishing Kids: Luxaire Distributor Solar Supply Raises $50,000 for MAW

    March 1, 2012
Solar Supply has been in business for more than 50 years

Solar Supply Inc., distributor of the Luxaire brand of HVAC equipment from Johnson Controls, recently sponsored the Houston Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Society’s 22nd Annual Golf Classic and Auction. The event raised nearly $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana, including a $6,000 donation from Luxaire.

This year, Luxaire is celebrating a “Decade of Wishes Come True ” with the Foundation. Since 2001, Luxaire has sponsored the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and through its network of heating and air-conditioning dealers and distributors, has donated more than $2.4 million, which is enough to grant nearly 330 wishes. The recent event was held at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, TX, and included a Florida scramble golf tournament followed by silent and live auctions. Eight Solar Supply employees participated in the golf tournament and in the auction.

“We all know someone who has been touched by a life-threatening medical condition,” says Quitman Moon, Solar Supply regional sales manager. “The Make-A-Wish Foundation is filled with caring and devoted people, and we participate in as many events as we can. Being just a small part of it makes us feel big inside.”

The event featured Cameron, a 17-year-old golf enthusiast whose wish to play at the Pebble Beach golf course was fulfilled earlier this year by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana. Celebrity guests included Houston Astros starting pitcher Bud Norris and Astros television analyst Jim Deshales. “We truly appreciate the compassion of Solar Supply and Luxaire in helping us to provide hope, strength and joy to children through the wishes that we will fund,” says Paul Valek, chairman of the event.

“It's because of the generosity of our players and sponsor -- in addition to the time, commitment, drive and hard work of the Houston CPA Society’s staff and volunteers — that the 22nd Annual Golf Classic was a success.” “Sponsoring events like the Annual Golf Classic helps deepen the bond between Luxaire and the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” adds Mary Mocarski, Luxaire brand manager. “Luxaire is honored to help this organization raise money to grant wishes, which are a source of hope and joy to seriously ill children and their families.”

Solar Supply, Inc. is a privately owned wholesale HVACR supply company. Headquartered in Lake Charles, LA, for more than 50 years, Solar Supply has grown to 56 sales offices located in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
