A solar PV system generates all the power needed for the home, resulting in a net-zero energy home.
CLEVELAND, OH — The editors of Contracting Business.com — a leading, national publication for residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) contractors, have presented Mechanical Air Service, Inc., San Jose, CA, with a Quality Home Comfort Award, for excellence in HVAC contracting.
The Contracting Business.com Quality Home Comfort Awards are presented each year to residential HVAC contracting firms, based on projects submitted to the publications’ editorial staff. The awards are presented in a variety of categories based on home size and type of installation (new home construction or renovation). Criteria include comfort control, design installation and quality, economic impact, indoor air quality improvement, and unique design features.
This is Mechanical Air Service’s third QHCA. It also won in 2006 and 2008. Russ Donnici is president. Matt Donnici is vice president of construction, and Scott Larson is vice president of service. Both men are International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA)-certified, and took full charge of designing the geothermal system, equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.
The winning project in its category consisted of a major geothermal heat pump installation for a new, 12,000 sq.ft. home in Atherton, CA. The comfort system draws its heat from 30 wells drilled at 325-ft. Six ClimateMaster Tranquility 27 two-stage, 4-ton geothermal units and one 2-ton units are the heart of the system. Mechanical Air System’s goal in designing the home’s HVAC system was to integrate as many “green” energy related items as possible. A solar photovoltaic (PV) system generates all the power needed for the home, resulting in a net-zero energy home.
Mechanical Air Service was one of six HVAC firms to receive QHCA’s in 2012. Other winners are: General Air Conditioning, Inc., San Antonio, TX; Energy Environmental Corporation, Centennial, CO; Eric Kjelshus Energy, Greenwood, MO; Orchard Valley Heating & Cooling, Southampton, MA; and Professional Geothermal Systems, Port Washington, WI.
The story of this and the other QHCA winners can be found by viewing the July 2012 online edition of Contracting Business.com, found at this link.
