Two large office buildings, a building renovation on a university campus, a casino resort, and a world-class university hall facility. Each of these five projects brought the best of the best together to work toward a central goal of building the most efficient and sustainably sound structure that each could produce. Four of the five 2010 Design/Build award winners were at one time in their careers received the ContractingBusiness.com Commercial Contractor of the Year award. That really shows the caliber of work that it takes to be recognized with a Design/Build award. The project teams faced unique challenges, and stepped up to the plate with design and energy saving solutions.

EMCOR Services New England Mechanical used a combination of retro commissioning, duct leak repairs, and a retrofitted chilled water system to improve energy savings in an 11-story office building. Read about the project

Kahn Mechanical Contractors made significant IAQ improvements in an office building by replacing improperly designed equipment with best-in-class equipment. Read about the project

Lee Company used a central energy management system to coordinate the operation of all the air conditioning equipment, and to allow for energy efficient start and stop strategies in their university building renovation. Read about the project

Murphy Co. used a unique solution for energy efficiency in a university. The project included a three story building with 23 custom-made laboratory suites. It was designed and built in 18 months, under budget and ahead of schedule. Read about the project

Southland Industries played along with the fast paced lifestyle of Vegas to provide guests of the M Resort with a relaxing, yet entertaining facility, in under two years. Read about the project

Runners-Up:

Allied Heating and Air Conditioning, San Rafael, CA
for the Hilton Hotel in Union Square,
San Francisco, CA
The project at this historic hotel updated a large multi-zone air handler. Economizer dampers were replaced with new stainless steel dampers and linkage. The chassis of the old air handling unit was updated to meet the exact criteria of a direct replacement.

Van Natta Mechanical Corp., Mahwah, NJ
for the North Jersey Community Bank, Englewood Cliffs, NJ Bank officials wanted a full HVAC renovation of this three-story building. The installation team selected three LG Multi V Sync II outdoor units with a three-pipe heat pump system.
