Mestex will introduce its innovative HVAC product design, the Aztec AMC — created to meet more stringent codes and standards for commercial HVAC systems, including data center applications — at the AFCOM 2015 Data Center World event, April 19-23, at Mirage Resort and Casino, Las Vegas.
The new HVAC design combines energy-efficient evaporative cooling technology with an advanced air turnover system — a combination not often found in industrial applications.
"A flexible, scalable and energy-saving method for data center capacity planning and cooling — known as 'build as you grow' — is gaining momentum," said Rose Samano, sales manager at Mestex. "Adding plug-and-play units, such as the Aztec AMC, as capacity increases is an economical strategy."
The Aztec systems, which can harness cooler outside air to support indoor cooling, are proven to lower power usage by up to 70% when compared to traditional air conditioning (including computer room air conditioning [CRAC] units.) The system's digital controls, when integrated with other building automation systems, can extend that savings even further.
"Unlike other technologies just starting to be developed to reduce energy, costs and environmental impact, this technology is available today — and proven effective," said Mike Kaler, president of Mestex. "For the foreseeable future, HVAC purchasing decisions will be based on the ability to reduce energy consumption and costs."
The new Aztec AMC HVAC system features:
- High-performance air handling efficiencies using direct-drive plenum fans with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controls that reduce energy consumption when equipment is operating at part load, which is typically more than 95% of the time. (An optional electronic commutated [EC] motor, shown to improve fan efficiency by 30%, is also available.)
- Refrigerant-free evaporative cooling technology, proven to lower power usage by up to 70% when compared to traditional air conditioning.
- Direct digital controls that help monitor and adjust HVAC systems for comfort, costs and energy efficiency. These controls are available remotely 24/7 through a web interface, as well as locally via a new equipment-mounted or wall-mounted touch screen.
