Safety Leaders: Air Systems, Inc., Tweet/Garot Recognized for Many Safe Hours Worked

    Dec. 9, 2013
Air Systems, Inc., San Jose, CA, received a Safety Excellence Award from SMACNA. Tweet/Garot Mechanical, Green Bay, WI, reached 7.5 million safe hours without a lost-time incident.

Air Systems, Inc., San Jose, CA, has been recognized for exemplary safety practices and performance with a national Safety Excellence Award from the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA). The award was presented for best safety and health record in the 500,000+ man-hours worked category. This was Air Systems’ second national SMACNA Award.

Air Systems, a leading mechanical/electrical/piping contractor, is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc.

“It’s an honor for Air Systems to again be recognized as one of the best specialty contractors nationally in terms of occupational safety and health performance,” says Art Williams, president of Air Systems.

“Importantly, every person at Air Systems rededicates him/herself every day to working safely and staying healthy. Sustaining this level of commitment is never easy; so it’s indeed gratifying for the company to receive this national recognition.”

Air Systems’ commitment to safety is part of a multi-tiered, integrated approach that includes a Zero Accident program as well as a host of supporting initiatives, such as the “Be There For Life” program, which EMCOR started to educate its employees and their families about the importance of safety.

Another safety leader — as well as being an excellent mechanical contractor — is Tweet/Garot Mechanical, Green Bay, WI. The firm announced in early December that it had reached 7.5 million safe hours without a lost-time incident. It reached the milestone in October. The string of safe hours dates back to June, 2002.

Tweet/Garot CEO Tim Howald, and Safety Director Gabe Gutenberger, attribute Tweet/Garot’s safety success to  a constantly improving safety program, and the “relentless safety dedication” of its employees.

Tweet/Garot’s “Zero Injury” program, which started in January, 2004, raised the expectations of all employees to promote safety awareness proactively. Since that time, workplace safety at Tweet/Garot has been an ever-evolving and improving process.

Tweet/Garot has received commendations from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Wisconsin for 17 consecutive years; the Wisconsin Corporate Safety Grand Award for 10 of the past 13 years, as well as continued recognition by Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and SMACNA.
