Legislation Introduced in IL to Register All Mechanical Contractors

Contractors not registered with the state would be prohibited from enforcing a contract

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago has issued an alert to pending legislation which would require all mechanical contractors in Illinois to register with the state, pay a registration fee, and submit various documentation. A mandatory education provision is also proposed.
In order to do any mechanical work in the State of Illinois, a company would have to meet various requirements:

- pay a registration fee, which could be upwards of $100
-submit certifcate of liability coverage of at least $250,000
- proof of workers' compensation coverage
- proof of vehicle insurace coverage
- mandatory continuing education (10 hours minimum per year).
