Danfoss, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motion systems, recognized MultiStack LLC, of Sparta, WI, as the winner of the second annual “EnVisioneer of the Year” award competition, for its success in implementing energy-efficient practices. The award was presented on October 5 in Washington, D.C., following the annual Alliance to Save Energy’s Stars of Energy Efficiency black-tie gala.

MultiStack, a leading worldwide manufacturer of high-efficiency modular chillers for commercial, industrial and government applications, installed two MultiStack chillers at Valley High School, Las Vegas, Nev. The installation included eight Danfoss Turbocor compressors, four Danfoss VLT® variable frequency drives and the MultiStack FlexSys controller, which incorporates Danfoss Turbocor software. By switching to the magnetic levitation-powered chillers and a central plant control system, school administrators hoped to reduce energy use at the 45-year-old building by 50%. In fact, the school exceeded its goal by 20%, reducing energy consumption from 1.5 kW/ton to .443 kW/ton. “We are excited to recognize MultiStack’s winning approach to energy efficiency,” said John Galyen, president, Danfoss North America.

“This application is particularly interesting, because it demonstrates the impressive savings that can be achieved in existing buildings by investing in and applying energy-efficient technology available on the market today. It’s proof that upgrades that can be made right now will have a big impact on the future of the building and the environment.”

The “EnVisioneer of the Year” award competition was launched in 2010 by Danfoss to recognize end users, building owners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that exemplify the Danfoss EnVisioneering core values and have used Danfoss products to realize significant energy and/or environment savings. “EnVisioneering is a strategic, customer-focused approach designed to create engaged partnerships with our customers by combining engineering innovation, energy efficiency and environmental responsibility,” explained Galyen. “We launched this competition to help business leaders continue to advance energy-efficient, sustainable solutions that support improved performance and profitability, higher standards and lower operating costs in buildings and facilities.”

In recognition of the energy-efficiency achievements of MultiStack, Danfoss made a financial contribution in the winner’s honor to Rebuilding Together.

“On behalf of Rebuilding Together, I am honored to accept this generous donation from Danfoss,” said President and CEO of Rebuilding Together, Gary A. Officer. “Rebuilding Together is committed to energy-efficient initiatives throughout our core work; we rehabilitate 10,000 homes a year, and consistently make energy-efficient upgrades to homes to maximize efficiency, lowering the cost for the homeowner and positively impacting the environment.” Rebuilding Together is the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. Their network of more than 200 affiliates provides extensive renovations and modifications to the homes of low-income Americans at no cost to the homeowners, making the homes safer, more accessible and more energy efficient.
