Aireco Supports Homes for Our Troops by Donating a Complete Frigidaire System

Article Tools

Aireco recently donated a complete Frigidaire, high efficiency, Energy Star rated heating and cooling system to help in the construction of a specially adapted home for Marine Sgt. Adam Kisielewski in Frederick, MD. Adam lost his left arm at the shoulder and his right leg below the knee when an IED detonated as a trigger-wired door was opened while looking for insurgents near Fallujah, Iraq in August 2005.

“Right now our home is three floors with narrow doorways and I have to wear my prosthetic leg all day to get around,” Adam says. “With our new home on one floor, it will make everything much more accessible. I look forward to being able to help my wife take care of my 14-month-old son when he wakes up in the middle of the night.”

The new specially adapted home will feature large door openings and wide hallways, hard surfaced floors, a master bath with large roll-in shower, and much more.

Since 2004, Homes for Our Troops has committed to providing barrier-free homes to 100 military families and are hoping to build 100 more in the next three years. The homes are built to accommodate the injuries of the veterans and are donated to the veterans at no charge. This is possible by raising donations of money, building materials, and professional labor, and partnering with a local General Contractor to help coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

"The Homes for Our Troops mission relies on the support from local businesses like Aireco, "said John Gonsalves, president and founder of Homes for Our Troops. “Our military families make profound sacrifices for our country, especially the families of our severely injured veterans. I'm proud to come together with Aireco to help give back some of the freedom and independence Adam and his family have lost through the gift of a specially adapted home.”

Upon completion, the home will be presented at no cost to Adam and his family thanks to the generous support from general contractor Case Design/Remodeling, Inc., professional tradespeople, countless volunteers, thousands of donations from numerous individuals across the country and from the community of Frederick.
