The Building Performance Institute (BPI), Malta, NY, announced that Tony Woods, member of the BPI board of directors and founder of Canam Building Envelope Specialists and Zerodraft®, Mississauga, Canada, died of cancer on May 8, 2009.

From bungalow to skyscraper, school to government, and all points in between, Woods improved the performance of almost every type of structure. BPI sources called Woods a pioneer of building performance and the systems approach since the early 1970s.

Woods founded Canam Building Envelope Specialists Inc. in 1980. Throughout his career, he developed new and innovative ways to diagnose and correct building envelope flaws, and calculate the energy savings that could be realized from air leakage control. He developed and launched the Zerodraft line of weatherizing products in the mid-1990s.

Donations in Woods' name may be made online at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's “Light the Night Walk” at lightthenight.org.
