Partnership Promotes Technician Certification in NY

Article Tools

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority ( NYSERDA), in conjunction with North American Technician Excellence (NATE) has introduced a program to increase the number of NATE-certified technicians in New York State.

The program, called Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning — Training, Education, Certification & Awareness (HVAC-TECA) is also designed to increase NATE-recognized training opportunities.

All participants in the program will be provided with training on building science. According to NYSERDA, the program will create a "natural bridge," in the HVAC industry: as more technicians become NATE-certified and are introduced to building science, more contractors will see the value of Building Performance Institute (BPI) accreditation. BPI is a nonprofit organization that promotes building science practice in the residential building trades.

"Through our partnership with NATE and BPI, we encourage technicians and contractors in new York to differentiate themselves from their competition through voluntary certification and accreditation, says NYSERDA President Peter R. Smith. For more information, visit www. nyserda.org
