Partnership Promotes Technician Certification in NY

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority ( NYSERDA), in conjunction with North American Technician Excellence (NATE) has introduced a program to increase the number of NATE-certified technicians in New York State.

The program, called Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning — Training, Education, Certification & Awareness (HVAC-TECA) is also designed to increase NATE-recognized training opportunities.

All participants in the program will be provided with training on building science. According to NYSERDA, the program will create a "natural bridge," in the HVAC industry: as more technicians become NATE-certified and are introduced to building science, more contractors will see the value of Building Performance Institute (BPI) accreditation. BPI is a nonprofit organization that promotes building science practice in the residential building trades.
