Randall Mechanical, Inc., Orlando, FL, recently completed a $1 million upgrade to the central energy plant for Brevard Community College, Melbourne, FL.

Randall Mechanical incorporated one, new 500 centrifugal chiller, one 7,500 MBH cooling tower (shown below), two dual fire boilers, one domestic hot water heat exchanger and associated pumps and piping.

Jeffrey S. Condello, Randall Mechanical's founder, president, and CEO, said the improvements were designed to provide heating hot water, chilled water, thermal storage and domestic hot water. Randall Mechanical Inc.’s scope of work included the renovation and upgrade of the existing central energy plant and thermal storage facility to support the Melbourne, FL campus. This included more than 1,000 ft. of pre-insulated HDPE hydronic piping that connected the central energy plant to the existing thermal storage tank facility.

The central energy plant incorporated one new 500 centrifugal chiller, one 7,500 MBH cooling tower, two dual fire boilers, one domestic hot water heat exchanger and associated pumps and piping to complete the C.E.P and T.E.S facilities.

The work occurred over a 120-day period while the campus was fully operational, and posed numerous scheduling challenges and limited shut down capabilities, though Randall Mechanical completed the project with minimal disruption to students and faculty.
