Members of Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 36 and representatives from other St. Louis Building and Construction Trades Council members spent the holidays volunteering as bell ringers to support the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Volunteers from Local 36 rang bells and collected donations at six different locations in December to support the Red Kettle Campaign, which raises money to buy food and Christmas gifts, and heats the homes of families in need.

“More than any other time, the holidays should be about giving generously of your time and resources,” said Local 36 president and business manager David C. Zimmerman. “I truly admire the passion of our membership for wanting to give back to the community to those less fortunate.”

Donations are redistributed by the Salvation Army to families living in the same areas the donations were collected. In 2009 the Red Kettle Campaign relied on the support of 25,000 volunteers and raised over $139 million in over 5,000 communities nationwide. The 2010 campaign began on Thanksgiving Day and ran through Christmas Eve.
