• Balancing the Big and Little Picture

    April 24, 2013
Achieving a balance between everyday tasks and long-term goals can be tricky. This article gives you tips on how to keep your eye on the big picture while not letting the little things fall through the cracks.

It’s something we all struggle with — keeping the big picture in mind while we work day in and day out in a frankly difficult job.

But don’t just leave the big picture to the management. Keeping that perspective helps you to do a better job for your customers and co-workers. On the flip side, a company that concentrates solely on the big picture will let too many details fall through the cracks.

How can you accomplish both an understanding of the overall goal as well as how an individual contributes to achieving the goal?

    Here is the game plan:

    1.    Hold monthly companywide and weekly leadership/departmental meetings. Use this time to recap results and keep the team on the same page.
    2.    Leadership has a clear goal for motivating the team. Everyone has a different leadership style, but it takes a great leader to execute a uniform thought.
    3.    Empower employees to share best practices. Leadership isn’t the only brain trust in the company; allow other employees to be part of the bigger picture.
    4.    Take time to celebrate success. Everyone could use a pat on the back. Invest in a get-together, whether it be a company quarterly or a big Christmas party. It does wonders for morale.
