The United States Congress will meet this fall and debate reauthorization or replacement of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, which provides funding for vocational and technical schools.

According to William Allred, executive director of HVAC Excellence, and vice president of the American Technical Educators Association (ATEA), this debate will greatly affect the survival of HVACR programs at public schools, community colleges, and vocational/technical schools.

Allred and a group of members from ATEA recently met with Carol D'Amico, assistant secretary for Vocational and Adult Education in the U.S. Department of Education. D'Amico asked ATEA and Allred to remain in contact with her office, and asked for their participation in the upcoming congressional debate on vocational and technical education.
