University Mechanical and Engineer Contractors (UMEC), a subsidiary of EMCOR, Norwalk, CT, has been awarded the contract to upgrade a 24 million gallon water treatment plant in Gilbert, AZ, a suburb of Phoenix.
UMEC will build and install process equipment and piping installation for the raw water control, ballasted flocculation (mixing) basins, filter gallery and filters, blower room, reservoir/pre-chlorination well, finished water pump station, recovered water basin, thickened sludge pump station, sludge drying beds, chemical building, and lox/ozone mechanical room for the water treatment plant. UMEC will also provide chemical piping, HVAC, plumbing, and ductwork.
According to Brad Thornton, president/CEO of UMEC, the contractor will employ methods to optimize water quality, availability, and cost.
Other new projects awarded to EMCOR subsidiaries include:
- Welsbach Electric will complete the electrical rehabilitation of the Roosevelt Island Lift Span Bridge in New York, NY - Gibson Electric is handling the fiber optic loop system installation associated with Chicago O'Hare Airport modernization program
- Dynalectric will replace signal controllers and install conduit, fiber optic cable, video cameras and poles, pavement embedded loop detectors, and video and data communication equipment from the 118 freeway to the 210 freeway in Los Angeles, CA
- Contra Costa Electric will handle the electrical work related to the new construction of an airport rental car site at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport, Fresno, CA.
