The Alliance to Save Energy, Washington, DC, has included Sears and CertainTeed Corp. among its 2002 “Stars of Energy Efficiency” Awards. In addition, the Alliance’s Charles H. Percy Award for Public Service was presented to the federal government’s Energy Star program. According to the Alliance, Sears, Roebuck and Co was honored, “Because of its extensive relationship with its customers -- more than 60 million households – Sears has effective channels to deliver products that are energy-efficient messages about the benefits of energy conservation.” CertainTeed was honored for its Certified Contractor program, which independently tests insulation contractors to ensure they’re installing insulation properly to maximize thermal integrity in homes, and its partnership with Environments for Living, which offers builders a step-by-step approach to energy efficiency. “This year’s award winners represent the very best of the public and private sectors,” says Alliance president David M. Nemtzow, “demonstrating that every part of our society has a critical role to play and a contribution to make toward greater energy efficiency.”
