The Oil Heat Cares “Care to Ride” bikathon/walkathon raised $75,000 for those unable to pay their heating bills (see CB, August 2007, p.22). Other projects include:
Carl Mellinger, B.G. Mellinger Co., and a member of the NAOHSM Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter learned of an 80-year-old gentleman who lived alone and could not afford the $414 per month budget plan he would need to buy the oil required to heat his home with his outdated heating system. Through the OHC program, B.G. Mellinger Co. installed a new Burnham boiler at no cost to the homeowner, and thereby reduced his fuel consumption and monthly heating bills.
Boston NAOHSM Chapter member Kevin Shea of Shea Fuel, Wakefield, MA, met a woman who needed a new heating system, but couldn’t afford one because of numerous other problems she was facing. The OHC committee approved this project and she now has a new Energy Kinetics system installed at no charge by Shea Fuel.
Oil Heat Cares is a Not-for-Profit Foundation (501C-3) that assists needy persons and organizations with the replacement of their oil heating appliance. NAOHSM has 30 chapters located throughout the Northeast portion of the United States. Oil Heat Cares projects can be initiated by a chapter or by individual members.
