Carrier Expands WeatherExpert Rooftop Line to 150 Tons

Aug. 19, 2013
The WeatherExpert line has what sources say are industry-leading Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio (IEER) ratings up to 21.0, ratings that exceed the Consortium of Energy Efficiency (CEE) tier II criteria, which many utilities use for rebates.

Carrier’s highest efficiency commercial rooftop line — the WeatherExpertSeries — now includes six new models from 75- to 150-tons, for a total model line-up ranging from 3- to 150-ton units.

The WeatherExpert line, which sources say have one of the industry-leading Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratios (IEER) with ratings up to 21.0, which exceed the Consortium of Energy Efficiency (CEE) tier II criteria. They also meet or exceed all current ASHRAE 90.1-2010 and Energy Starenergy requirements, with some models exceeding standards by more than 84%.

Carrier collaborated with customers to design the latest WeatherExpert rooftop models, which are the largest sizes the company has ever offered. The “ground-up design” provides the valued flexibility and efficiencies needed for both today’s and tomorrow’s markets, presenting customers with a lower cost-of-total-ownership product option.

Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier stated “It’s a testament to our design team, who worked closely with our customers, that the WeatherExpert rooftop units won recognition in the Cooling Category for the 2013 AHR Expo Innovation Awards Competition,” He continued, “With the addition of these six models, Carrier has its most comprehensive and efficient rooftop lines ever, with units ranging from 3 to 150 tons.”

Similar to other models in the Carrier Weather Series line, the WeatherExpert 75- to150-ton units were designed to maintain product familiarity by taking advantage of common parts from existing Carrier rooftop designs. With six sizes between 75 and 150 tons, customers are able to tailor the equipment to specifically fit with their exact application, while simultaneously enjoying convenient access to product support from Carrier experts in their market both during and after installation.

The new WeatherExpert 75- to 150-ton models feature a double- wall foam panel

cabinet design with hinged “man-sized” access panels. Additionally customers can select between the standard airfoil supply fan or the optional high static airfoil supply fan as a solution to the static pressure necessary for today’s complex building applications and highly featured units. Units are also available in dedicated vertical, horizontal and mixed supply/return airflow configurations for constant volume (CV), staged air volume (SAV) or variable air volume (VAV)

applications. Each WeatherExpert model also comes with the ComfortLink DDC (direct digital control) communicating control system and hermetic staging scroll compressors on refrigerant circuits controlled via Electronic Expansion Valves (EXV) for ease of use.

In addition, the WeatherExpert 75- to 150-ton units are available in gas/electric,

electric/electric and cooling only applications are offered with a range of pre-engineered and certified factory options, such as the Humidi-MiZer adaptive dehumidification system, service valves, disconnect switches and much more.

“The WeatherExpert units deliver optimal comfort and energy savings at both full- and part-load conditions,” added Alcorn. “Our control logic operates the multi-stage system to provide what our customers are looking for – smart, efficient operation with comfort control.”

All WeatherExpert units feature Puron refrigerant (R-410A), which provide easy access for routine maintenance, and are supported by Carrier’s eDesign Suite and integrate with Carrier’s i-Vusystem controls.
