Refrigeration Service Today: Products for October 2013

Oct. 10, 2013
This month we feature a leak detector from General Tools & Instruments, and a new Ecoline compressor from Bitzer, US.

Leak Detector Complies with New ASHRAE Standard

The Digital Refrigerant Leak Detector (RLD400) from General Tools & Instruments has been certified by an accredited independent test laboratory to comply with the new Halocarbon Refrigerant Leak Detector Standard 173-2012  of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The action  means
the instrument has been certified at a leak rate of less than one gram per year. General’s RLD400 is also certified to comply with SAE J2791, J2913, and J1627 standards, and the new European standard EN14624:2012. It is the only instrument of its kind to meet all five standards.

The RLD400 offers advanced detecting power and affordability; with its proprietary semiconductor sensor, it is built to detect all commercially available HFC, HFO, HC, HCFC and CFC refrigerant gases, including many new ozone layer-friendly blends, such as R-22 and R-1234yf, approved under the EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP). generaltools.com

A More Efficient Compressor from Bitzer USBitzer US, Inc. has begun producing the new Ecoline reciprocating compressor series at its Atlanta area manufacturing plant. Sources report that, with the new series, Bitzer is transferring all the advantages of the proven Ecoline series for R134a refrigerant to an even broader range of applications, as a way to provide

customers with significant added value. The compressors are approved for R134a, R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F, and R507A and are offered in sizes ranging from 1/2HP to 50HP.

The new Ecoline series offers higher efficiency levels and simultaneously expanded application limits — and can still fit into existing systems as a replacement. The coefficient of performance was improved throughout the series by 6% (at nominal rating points) and, at low condensing temperatures, which are important for seasonal efficiency, the increase was up to 12%.

The New Ecoline compressors with Motor Version 2 are now universal refrigeration compressors — for full applicability in low temperature applications and medium temperature applications. Motor versions 1 or 3 are provided for heat pumps, medium temperature applications with R134a, and special applications. Each new Ecoline compressor is compatible with its predecessor model, with an unaltered mounting hole pattern and the same pipe connections, offering efficiency gains even when servicing existing systems. All new Ecoline compressors are  suitable for operation with external frequency inverters. bitzerus.com
