Wiegmann Associates has commenced work on an $800,000 HVAC project for a tenant build-out at Aviator Business Park in Hazelwood, Mo.

The project includes installing a mechanical system infrastructure for the 535,000-sq.ft. space that will house Silgan Plastics’ St. Louis production facility, a Weekends Only storage warehouse, and a shell warehouse.

Wiegmann Associates is also installing the HVAC system for a 75,000 sq.ft. shell warehouse on another lot. Construction is scheduled to be completed by December 2015. Kadean Construction Company is the general contractor.

Aviator Business Park is a 155-acre development located one mile north of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport on the site of the former Ford Hazelwood Assembly Plant. The business park, located within a State of Missouri Enhanced Enterprise Zone, houses commercial, industrial and warehousing tenants.

Project Manager Bryan Kenkel told ContractingBusiness.com that the project’s major mechanical components for the Silgan Plastics section of the project will include two Johnson Marcraft air rotation units that will provide about 350 tons of heating and cooling. A chilled water system will provide cooling and gas heat will provide winter heating for the Silgan Plastics production area.

“In their warehouse area, we have a series of Greenheck exhaust and upblast fans and louvers, plus makeup air units to heat and ventilate the space throughout the year,” he explained.

Wiegmann Associates is a St. Louis-based mechanical contractor serving the commercial, industrial and institutional markets, and a national leader in Design/Build HVAC projects. Since 1995, Wiegmann Associates has engineered and installed innovative, energy-saving and cost-efficient HVAC solutions and automation controls for clients in a wide range of industries.

The firm has completed projects in the entire 48 contiguous United States, and is currently at work on projects in five states outside of Missouri.
“We’ve grown year after year, even through the recession,” Kenkel said.

Wiegmann Associates is a Delta Controls rep. While controls did not come into play in the Aviator project, they have used them consistently in other projects.

“We have an entire staff dedicated to Delta Controls business,” Kenkel said. “We design, program and oversee the installation of all of our in-house systems.
Kenkel said controls installations really help provide more service work down the road. “After you install a controls package, you become the contractor they call, to provide the future maintenance in those buildings, and the opportunity to look after the systems and tweak and modify them to meet customer needs,” he said.

Kenkel added that communication is the key to working well with general contractors.

“Emails are fine, but you have to pick up the phone,” he said. “If there’s a problem, tell somebody about it. Sitting on the problem doesn’t do anybody any good. It’s also important that you oversee subcontractors to make sure they’re doing what you hired them to do.”  wiegmannassoc.com
