The ESCO Institute issued an email this week to remind industry editors and educators about the HFC phasedown which begins January 1, 2022!
The HFC refrigerant phasedown calls for a reduction in the production and importation of HFC refrigerants as follows:
- January 1, 2022 by 10%
- January 1, 2024 by 40%
- January 1, 2029 by 70%
- January 1, 2034 by 80%
- January 1, 2035 by 85%
Preparing For Low GWP Refrigerants
During the phasedown, the HVACR industry will transition to new equipment and new refrigerants, including lower GWP Refrigerants, many of which are flammable or mildly flammable.
To help educators prepare others to work with lower GWP refrigerants, the ESCO Institute offers a training manual, elearning course, instructor PowerPoint, and a closed-book certification exam.
During the National HVACR Education Conference, March 21-23, 2022 in Las Vegas, NV, educators and trainers will gain a better understanding of the phasedown and safety procedures associated with Low GWP Refrigerants by attending sessions conducted by organizations who are leading the charge to transition the HVACR industry.
