State Water Heaters to Join Kurt Busch for "The Double" Run

April 10, 2014
State Water Heaters will sponsor Kurt Busch in his quest to complete “The Double” To complete "The Double," Busch must race in the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. "The Double" has only been attempted four times in the last decade.

It's tough to pull a double shift in the HVAC field. Well, how about signing on to race a total of 1100 miles in one day? That's what Kurt Busch will attempt in May.

State Water Heaters announced today that it will join Kurt Busch as a sponsor in his quest at “The Double,” racing in the Indianapolis 500 for Andretti Autosport and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 for Stewart-Haas Racing on the same day, scheduled for May 25.  In March, Busch announced that he will become only the fourth driver in history — and first in a decade — to attempt “The Double," also known as "Double Duty."

As a full-season sponsor of Busch’s No. 41 Chevrolet SS at Stewart-Haas Racing, State Water Heaters — a leading manufacturer of commercial and residential water heaters — will have its logo on both Busch’s Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 racing suits during “The Double.”

State will also be providing updates via Twitter (https://twitter.com/StateIndustries) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/StateIndustries) before and during the May events.

“This is a very natural extension of our existing relationship with Kurt and Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR),” said Jeff Storie, senior manager of marketing for State Water Heaters.  “We were thrilled when Kurt joined SHR – he has already taken us to victory lane there.  To now be part of what will be a highly visible and historical event is great for our company and helps our sales team leverage the entire partnership with Kurt.”

In addition, State Water Heaters will be supporting the Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) by donating $25 for each mile (of the 1,100 total possible miles) that Busch completes while driving in the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600.  Busch is an advocate and representative of the AFF and utilizes motorsports as a platform to bring attention to the Foundation and its efforts to offer vital assistance to active-duty and retired military personnel, National Guard, Reserve Components and military families.

“It is great to have State Water Heaters join us for this journey,” said Busch.  “We are off to a solid start together on the NASCAR side, and to have their support for ‘The Double’ is meaningful.  What State is doing with the donation for the Armed Forces Foundation really supports one of my main motivations in trying to race 1,100 miles in two different cars, with two different teams, in two different cities, on one day; that is bringing attention to the troops in a unique way.”

Busch is scheduled to first take to the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Indy 500 practice on Sunday, May 11, directly following the NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway on the night of Saturday, May 10.
