At Comfortech 2014, 12 products were recognized as Product Showcase Award winners. HVAC contractor judges took into consideration the ease with which contractors can apply the technology, and the technical value of the product or service to the HVAC industry. We feature one winner each month in the pages of Contracting Business.com. This month, we showcase the Rheem 90%+ Gas Furnace Platform, the winner in the Forced-air Heating category. Rheem’s new 90%+ gas furnace platform has efficiencies exceeding 98% AFUE, improved electrical efficiencies, and reduced operationgsound by up to 20%. Rheem has also designed a unique heat exchanger assembly that provides up to 1SEER point boost for the entire HVAC system’s efficiency. THese new gas furnaces employ direct-spark ignition system, which Rheem reports has proven to be nine times more reliable thatn earlier generations of hot surface ignition. This is the same ignition system used in commercial HVAC products. The units also feature Rheem’s Blocked Drain Sensor, which detects a blocked drain and shuts off the furnace. A four-way multi-poise design allows contractors to install the units upflow, down flow, or horizontal left-right.
