    Cool Changes: 2021 Guide to High Efficiency Residential Air Conditioning

    HVAC manufacturers have made improvements to system efficiency, reduced footprints, and engineered innovative cooling technologies for 2021 air conditioning systems.

    2021 brings many new ideas from the leading heating, ventilation and air conditioning manufacturers. 

    Thankfully, HVAC contractors have not had to endure the lockdowns of the past year. The major changes they've had to handle have been related to protocols: stocking sanitation materials, remote working for office personnel, and new guidelines for customer interactions. New business has included indoor air quality products, and for most, service and installations have gone well. 

    HVAC manufacturers have been busy, too. Our 2021 Guide to High-efficiency Air Conditioning shines a light on some of the improvements made to the leading brands, many with efficiency in mind. This guide will also appear in our April print edition.

    Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC has introduced the Deluxe Wall-mounted Single-zone System with H2i technology. The system includes the new Deluxe Wall-mounted Indoor Unit with Dual Barrier Coating and new outdoor heat pump model with Hyper-Heating INVERTER® plus (H2i plus™) technology.

    Allied Air Enterprises is offering new residential packaged units for its Armstrong Air, AireEase, Concord, Ducane and Alliled brands, all with new features as well as standard features contractors can appreciate. A new base rail design offers secure handling and placement in downflow applications, while upward flanges on downflow connections help keep water out of ducting.

    Bosch Thermotechnology has expanded its Inverter Ducted Split family of products, to include what is described as the HVAC market's first 15 SEER unitary inverter solution, IDS Light, as well as the 18 SEER IDS Plus and IDS Premium, at 20 SEER.

    Goodman Manufacturing Company, L.P. has launched its highest efficiency-rated residential air conditioner, the inverter-driven Goodman® brand GVXC20, with rated efficiencies up to 24.5 SEER and 15 EER.

    Arcoaire's HCA7 DuraComfort ®  Deluxe 17 split-system provides two-stage comfort with efficiency ratings up to 17 SEER. Heil's HVA9 is rated up to 19 SEER. 

    Johnson Controls has made a significant change to the design of condensing units for its Champion, Coleman, Luxaire and YORK HMH7 air conditioners, resulting in a 40 percent smaller footprint.

    Friedrich's FreshAireTM    IAQ utilizes a sophisticated technology options that work in separate and multiple combinations to address homeowners' indoor air quality needs.

     Fujitsu General America's single-phase J-IV and J-IVs Airstage VRF heat pump systems replace the J0II and J-IIs lines, for residential and light commercial applications.
