We know contractors have been busy with no cooling calls. This evil global warming thing is really working to help businesses crippled by a lack of new home and building construction.
But add-on services can also help during down times. One of those is more closely related to food service businesses, that must maintain sanitary conditions at all times. It's air curtains.
We've seen some fast food outlets using air curtains at drive through windows, and they're used in walk-in coolers and freezers, to maintain temperature. However, a new and different air curtain success story can be found at the new Pensacola Bay Front Stadium, home to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Cincinnati Reds' AA Southern League affiliate.
The stadium is a mere 50 yards from the ocean, so the concern was that seagulls and flying insects would descend on the food service area to feast on hotdogs and popcorn.
Not a problem: 13-ft. long air curtains by Berner International have kept the birds and flies away, without disrupting fans and workers with excessive air speeds.
Air curtains might seem like a simple installation, but Berner says they must be designed for velocity, volume, and uniformity. Velocity, to provide direction for the air; volume, to allow a properly designed and pressurized discharge plenum to generate a high velocity laminar jet stream; and uniformity, which affects airstream effectiveness.
