Singing in Harmony: ARI and Mexico Work Together on HVACR Standards

Sept. 1, 2006
The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) and Mexicos electrical standards development agency, the Associacion de Normalizacion y Certificacion

The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) and Mexico’s electrical standards development agency, the Associacion de Normalizacion y Certificacion (ANCE), has agreed to work together to develop HVACR industry standards.
The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during a ceremony held in Mexico City.
The MOU recognizes shared interests in advancing the harmonization of ARI and Mexican HVACR standards and international and regional standards in general. As part of its global trade efforts, ARI has signed similar agreements with China and Korea.
Ultimately, more harmonized standards will improve the efficiency of HVACR equipment and will facilitate the free flow of international trade, says Deborah Hawkins, chairman of ARI. "With this document as the basis, our two organizations can work to promote communication and increase information exchange," says Hawkins. "We can avoid duplication of effort and thus save money, increase efficiency and enhance productivity."
Objectives in the plan include:
- advancing the harmonization of ARI and Mexican HVACR standards and international and regional standards in general.
- promoting the knowledge of the standards development activities of each organization and the interpretation of standards.
- supporting mutual promotion of relevant standards and certification programs where appropriate.
- encouraging communication and information exchange between the two organizations.
