Trane has introduced a new, economical model to its Performance Climate Changer air handler portfolio. According to the company, which is a brand of Ingersoll Rand, the units are designed to deliver improved efficiency, indoor air quality and occupant comfort to serve a wider variety of applications and customers.
Trane Performance Climate Changer air handlers optimize energy conservation and deliver efficiency to the entire HVAC system.
- Unit features are designed to surpass ASHRAE 90.1 standards and provide the flexibility to tailor air handler selection to specific application requirements while staying within customers’ budgets.
- Superior casing construction, including configurations with double-wall casing panels and high-performance foam insulation, significantly reduces air leakage rates and can deliver up to 30% lower energy consumption.
- Certain portfolio configurations also feature stacked, direct-drive plenum (SDDP) fan arrays that provide full redundancy to keep HVAC systems working, quietly improving efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements.
- Additional options, like AHRI 1060-certified energy wheels, a Dual Exhaust Energy Recovery (DEER) system and air-to-plate heat exchangers, increase savings by providing advanced energy recovery capability. Available Traq dampers also reduce costs by enabling a more efficient demand control ventilation strategy.
“Performance Climate Changer air handlers combine the Trane tradition of engineering excellence with advanced manufacturing technology to deliver superior performance, quality and reliability,” says Rolf Paeper, Trane Airside portfolio leader. “With the Performance Climate Changer there is no need to compromise. You can get lower utility bills and better indoor air quality, too.”
Meets Specific Application Needs
Optimized indoor air quality (IAQ) is important in many markets, including education, hospitals, and manufacturing. Performance Climate Changer air handlers can address specific IAQ needs with advanced options including Trane Cool Dry Quiet (CDQ) desiccant dehumidification wheels, which manage building humidity better than traditional coil-only cooling systems while using up to 60% less energy. For cleaner indoor air, the Trane Catalytic Air Cleaning System (TCACS) combines high-efficiency MERV 13 filtration with UV-C lights and photo-catalytic oxidation (PCO) to control a broad range of airborne contaminants, including disease-causing bacteria and viruses.
In addition to indoor air quality, sound attenuation is also critical to occupant comfort. The optional SDDP fan arrays not only improve energy efficiency, but also significantly reduce noise by eliminating belts and offering multiple fan blade and wheel options, allowing fan acoustical properties to be optimized for the quietest possible operation. Discharge plenums and tuning modules, fan silencers and acoustical prediction software also combine to provide the quietest operating sound levels.
The fans’ beltless design delivers maintenance advantages as well, since there is no need to adjust or replace belts. Removable panels and superior construction also improve serviceability, providing easy access for cleaning and maintenance.
Performance Climate Changer with FlexFit reduces the time and cost of installation. The unit is assembled at the factory to ensure proper fit. Then its panels and components are clearly labeled and photographed before the unit is disassembled, packaged and shipped, allowing for easy on-site assembly.
