But enough on that. Let's not dwell on the negative. The good news is, after two years of recession, 2011 is projected as a year of recovery. Construction industry prognosticators agree there is no way to go but up. The momentum has already begun to shift. • Office, Retail and Lodging segments are set to improve according to the 2011 Real Estate Forecast from Grubb & Ellis, a commercial real estate services and investment firm. • Economic activity in the manufacturing sector will continue to expand, according to the latest "Manufacturing ISM Report on Business" issued by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). • According to ISM, the overall economy has been growing for 20 consecutive months and manufacturng for 17 months. • All four major indices – Dow Jones Industrials, S&P 500, NASDAQ and the TSE composite – recorded latest 52-week highs in the final days of 2010. • December marked the 18th consecutive month of growth in the new orders index. • Department of Labor U.S. initial jobless claims dropped at year's end: the current lower levels indicate higher levels of employment. • The two biggest factors holding back recovery – depressed residential real estate and high unemployment – have been feeding on each other. With employment on the mend, the residential real estate picture will improve. Still, recovery won't happen overnight. It's a slow process.
