Heating Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI) has announced the fourth annual Big Man On Planet (BMOP) competition beginning May 1, in partnership with Thermostat Recycling Corporation (TRC). BMOP will run through October 31 and all HARDI wholesaler members are eligible to participate.
BMOP encourages HARDI members to promote TRC’s mercury thermostat collection program at their branches. Four winning wholesalers will be determined by company size. Additionally, a $500 store incentive will be awarded to the top branch locations. Winners will be recognized at HARDI’s 2015 Annual Conference, December 5-8 in Orlando, FL.
“HARDI is proud of its members for their participation in the annual Big Man on the Planet program and we look forward to another strong year,” said HARDI CEO Talbot Gee. “Our continued success eliminating harmful mercury from the waste stream demonstrates the commitment HARDI members have to their communities. We value our partnership with TRC and continue to support their efforts.”
“Last year’s BMOP competition increased distributor participation by 75%, helping TRC divert more than 250 pounds of mercury from solid waste,” said TRC Executive Director Mark Tibbetts.
Corken Steel Products, Crescent Parts & Equipment, and Johnstone Supply were the winners in 2014. Johnstone Supply also won in 2013, and Johnson Supply was the inaugural winner in 2012.
