EPA GreenChill Offers Guide to Refrigeration Retrofits, Leak Prevention

The Environmental Protection Agency GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership is a group of refrigeration industry manufacturers and supermarkets striving to achieve reductions in refrigerant leaks in supermarkets across the U.S.

In August of 2011, GreenChill issued a Best Practices Guideline for Commercial Refrigeration Retrofits. The guide includes rationale for HFC refrigerant retrofits, best practices for transitioning to HFC-substitute chemicals and system end-of-service-life options, and refrigerant recovery and recycling. It also includes updated information on the phaseout of HCFC-22 (R22); information on ICOR International's R422B and R422C; Honeywell performance data; case histories; and a checklist for R407F. It includes Arkema performance data on R407A, and DuPont information on R438A.
