Employees who consider their work to be a profession, rather than a job, are more loyal to the company and therefore more content with their positions. These particular employees are more effective and more involved.
There are five things you can do to as a leader to improve your employees’ commitment to the organization and spread leadership:
Be Positive and Upbeat
Smile every day, and look for positive things to say to your co-workers and customers. Your positive-to-negative ratio of interactions should be six to one. For every negative encounter, you should have six positive encounters.
Show Genuine Interest
Actively engage and listen to your employees. These types of actions will help them take ownership of their work, while letting the employee know you care about their opinions.
Show Appreciation
Commend the individuals who go the extra mile and let them know that you recognize and appreciate their efforts. Acknowledge these standout individuals through expressions of thanks, such as a handwritten note or a small gift card.
Be Excited
Practice creating excitement with family, friends, and even strangers! It will help to keep you in this frame of mind daily.
Be a Role Model for Commitment
Engaging in the first four actions will feel contagious in the workplace. Those who follow your lead will likely become advocates of commitment.
Exercising this leadership style will result in a vibrant and enthusiastic workplace. Practice what you preach and see for yourself!
