Property Assessed Clean Energy, otherwise known as PACE has been enabled in 31 states and Washington, D.C., to help finance energy efficient or water conservation improvements, according to what industry professional Larry Clark wrote on our sister site HPAC Engineering. However, Clark said he is dismayed that there are still 19 states which have put PACE-friendly legislation into action.
Because a HVAC retrofit that sees old, inefficient equipment replaced with newer, high-efficiency equipment is a qualifying improvement under PACE, one would expect the HVAC industry—especially contractors—to actively promote PACE programs. And yet where I live, the existing PACE program has a shortage of registered A/C contractors—they have plenty of roofing and lighting contractors in the program—and a backlog of projects, mostly residential. The PACE program person with whom I spoke blamed it on contractors being too busy, but I think it’s more than that. I think it’s a lack of education, both of our industry and of the public.
What do you think about PACE? Have you been able to take advantage yet? Let us know.
