ASTM Seeks Papers for 2018 International Symposium on Whole Building Air Leakage

May 24, 2017
The symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on current air leakage research, trends in whole building air leakage, and new opportunities for new and revised standards.  To participate in the symposium, authors must submit a 250 to 300 word preliminary abstract no later than Sept. 8, 2017.  The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published.

The American Society for Testing Materials is seeking papers for its Symposium on Whole Building Air Leakage: Testing and Building Performance Impacts, April 8, 2018, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in San Diego. The symposium is sponsored by ASTM International’s Committee on Performance of Buildings [https://www.astm.org/COMMITTEE/E06.htm ] and will take place in conjunction with the April standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on current air leakage research, trends in whole building air leakage, and new opportunities for new and revised standards.

Topics for the symposium may include but are not limited to:

• Whole Building Air Leakage Testing of Large or Complex Buildings;

• Whole Building Air Leakage Testing of Residential Buildings and Compliance with Code and Above-Code Program Requirements;

• Whole Building Air Leakage Rates and their Impact on Load Calculations and Energy Modeling Results; and

• The Cost of Whole Building Air Tightness and the ROI on BECX and Whole Building Air Leakage Testing.

To participate in the symposium, authors must submit a 250 to 300 word preliminary abstract no later than Sept. 8, 2017. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published.

Because a limited number of abstracts will be accepted, be sure that the abstract is complete to allow for careful assessment of the paper's suitability for this symposium. The symposium’s chairmen will notify authors via postal mail by Oct. 13, 2017, of their papers’ acceptability for presentation at the symposium.

Registration questions can be directed to Tessa Sulkes at +1.610.832.9677[email protected]. For technical information or questions, contact symposium chair Theresa Weston at [email protected].
