We cannot always control the factors of our success — outside influences, internal culture, and the individuals we work with all have a factor in there somewhere.

So how do we cultivate on-the-job success knowing what stands beside us? The key is being prepared and knowing that you can only control what you do for your organization, and with that said, not spending time worrying about what you cannot control.

Business owners must help employees deal effectively the factors outside of the control of the organization. Factors could include: economic conditions, weather, competition, and government regulations.

A small guideline to finding success through adversity:
1.    Clarity of roles and expectations
2.    Coaching and reinforcement
3.    Incentives
4.    Work systems and processes
5.    Access to information, people, tools, and job aids.

Make no mistake — there are many factors in your control. Those have to do with motivation, work ethic, and desire to improve. Combined with your reaction to external factors, you may just have a recipe for success.
